Dermot Ross & Co Finance & Corporate Law
Dermot Ross & Co
Dermot Ross & Co specialises in all aspects of corporate and commercial legal work, with a particular specialisation in finance matters. All matters within the general ambit of the banking and finance industry are areas on which Dermot will be happy to be involved.
These include transactional borrowing and lending work, regulatory assistance, independent advice on financings of all sorts (e.g. insolvencies, restructurings, securitisations, project financings and asset‑backed financing), PPSA and other security matters and general bank advice.
While Dermot’s reputation is primarily in banking and finance, he has a broad experience and knowledge of the wider commercial and corporate laws in New Zealand and is admirably qualified to practice and advise in those areas.
Dermot has also considerable experience in aspects of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, including acting for two start-ups from their incorporation through to their obtaining licences from the Financial Markets Authority as an equity crowd funding agency and peer to peer lender respectively.
Dermot has also been involved in a number of ship financing transactions in recent times.
Amongst Dermot’s wide array of commercial clients is a leading rental vehicle agency, a major truck leasing company and a film production group.
Corporate & Commercial work includes:
- Acquisitions and dispositions of businesses
- Foreign investment in New Zealand
- Private equity investment
- Insolvency, work-outs and restructurings
- General commercial agreements
- Corporate governance matters
Because of Dermot’s network of connections within the legal community in New Zealand he is able to refer work to highly competent individuals where he himself does not have the necessary skills and experience. Equally he is able to delegate aspects of transactions and advice to lawyers he has complete faith in, so that the benefit of having a team of lawyers can be achieved on a transaction-by-transaction basis.
Dermot Ross & Co shares premises with a small number of legal businesses comprised in what is called The Legal Quarter. Included amongst them are a boutique Auckland law firm called Sanderson Weir, which includes amongst its principals two former partners of Bell Gully, specialising in finance, property and commercial law on the one hand and taxation on the other.
Another business forming part of The Legal Quarter is Mike Dineen Law, formed by a long standing and highly respected former partner of Buddle Findlay, Michael Dineen.
A large amount of experience and wisdom available to Dermot Ross & Co is literally in the offices next door.
